Influencing children's healthcare in Saskatchewan

Chair of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation board

Dr. Laurentiu (Laurence) Givelichian continues his quest to improve the delivery of health care to children in Saskatchewan as his job title changed.

His time as the head of pediatrics for the Saskatchewan Health Authority ended in May 2019.

Dr. Givelichian continues to be involved with care being delivered at the children’s hospital as a clinician as well as the chair of the board of directors for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“I'm able to still influence the health of children in Saskatchewan through my role with the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.”

The mission of the foundation is to inspire philanthropy for Saskatchewan to drive transformative maternal and children’s health, research, and innovation through Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and programs throughout the province.

“Our role at the foundation is to understand the priorities of the public and donors and align the health priorities with the Ministry of Health and their agencies’.”

“Academic priorities are discussed with the University of Saskatchewan or University of Regina.”

Establishing a pediatric research institute

Looking forward, Givelichian is working to establish a research institute for pediatrics in Saskatchewan.

He has been involved in numerous studies throughout his career to improve health outcomes for children.

“If I look back at my life, I can say this province has better children's health because of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and the programs from this hospital that are now going on throughout the entire province.”

“I was able to influence the health and the outcome of health for the children in Saskatchewan.”
